Original Abstract

This article deals with electromagnetic field simulation of earthing switch for conditions met during short-circuit tests – withstand as well as making. The key issue to be solved is behavior of current path - mainly contact system from the electrodynamic forces point of view. Several configurations of current path geometry including current inlet were assessed. The second part of the paper deals with verification of simulations by real tests. During testing, special system for arc light intensity reduction has to be used together with high-speed camera so that the mechanical system behavior is clearly visible prior to moving and fixed parts touch (switching-on arc) and during current flow.
