Original Abstract

English abstract

One of the significant material degradation factors in terms of integrity is erosion-corrosion in piping systems and creep in high pressure pipelines of thermal power plants. Through a product or plant’s operating life its integrity will deteriorate and the overhaul intervals are dictated by the capability of non-destructive testing to find many types of defects such as corrosion, erosion, cracks and creep damage. This article is focused on analysis of a set of steam piping specimens with dissimilar welded joints which were subjected to creep damage. Material degradation was characterized by acoustic emission (AE) method using their source locations and extracted AE parameters. A great benefit in this study was the use of time-frequency signal analysis and evaluation of basic AE parameters. It was found that macro-crack formed by the coalescence of cavities with each other and the crack, is starting to growth from about 70% of the creep life. In order to find a relationship between the creep damage and its AE response, a detailed metallographic and fractographic evaluation of the damaged specimen was performed.
