Original Abstract

Saleh-Valenzuela based clustered propagation concept is widely adopted for modelling UWB channels operating in the 3-11 GHz band. In this paper, we examine whether 60 GHz mmWave channels can be modelled along the same line. First, an automatic clustering algorithm is developed for the purpose which groups multipath components according to their time delays and amplitudes. Next, the algorithm is used to analyze measured impulse responses for 60 GHz channels inside a car. It was found that 60 GHz in-vehicle propagation can be characterized quite satisfactorily with IEEE 802.15.3a CM1. The out-of-car channel behaviour, however, is significantly distinct.
