Original Abstract

In this paper the background of the mathematical approach to the analysis of the failure probability of structural design is being discussed as the effective method quantifying and verifying the uncertainty in safety and reliability of structures. Most of the input material and geometrical characteristics of the structural systems are statistically independent random variables. Thus the accordant reliability verification must respect the combined effects of loading and resistance parameters. The probabilistic reliability assessment is calculated by the Monte Carlo method. A simplified problem of a compressed steel structural member loaded by permanent load action combined with a single variable load action is considered for the elaboration of the illustrative parametric study.
