Original Abstract

Probiotic microorganisms, including many strains of Lactobacillus, are often selected on the basis of their ability to adhere to surfaces of human intestinal tract, acid and bile stability and their ability to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. The object of the study was 13 strains of Lactobacillus (L. gasseri, L. acidophilus and L. helveticus) aquired from Czech Collection of Dairy Microorganisms (Tabor, Czech Republic). All strains were tested for selected probiotic properties such as survival of strains in simulated conditions of gastrointestinal tract (gastric juice and intestinal juice), antimicrobial activity against Lactobacillus and selected pathogenic strains (agar spot test, agar diffusion assay) and competition of tested lactobacilli and non-toxigenic E. coli O157:H7 for adhesion on well-differentiated human colon adenocarcinoma cells ( Caco2 cells).
