Original Abstract

One of the methods how to find an object boundary (segmentation) in gray-scale images is using active contours - "snakes". The snake is controlled by control points and can be interpreted as a curve of higher degree or in simplest way as a polygon. For using the active contours is important to define the energy functions. They control the position of control points and herewith the shape of the contour. The purpose of these energies is to enforce control points to the desired position and make them resistant to local noise. In this article one of these energy functions is presented.
