Original Abstract
This chapter deals with the problem of association rule mining in relational tables. Discretization of quantitative attributes is a crucial step of this process. Existing discretization methods are summarized in the first part of the chapter. Then, a method called Average Distance Based Method, which was developed by the authors, is described in detail. The basic idea of the new method is to separate processing of categorical and quantitative attributes. A new measure called average distance is used during the discretization process.
