Original Abstract

The purpose of submitted paper consists in a completion of knowledge about the influence of loading cycle asymmetry on fatigue properties of isothermally heat-treated (austempered) nodular cast iron. Most often the fatigue tests for fatigue limit determination are performed at symmetrical loading cycle. But the value of fatigue limit is a function of loading cycle asymmetry and, for different types of loading cycles, it increases or decreases according to the magnitude and sign of static pre-load. To obtain a good view on fatigue behaviour of materials it is necessary to determine several Wöhler’s curves with different cycle asymmetry and on their basis to construct the Smith diagram or the Haigh diagram. Both the diagrams represent the relationship among the fatigue limit values for various types of cycle asymmetry
