Original Abstract

The main goal of this paper is to summarize present experiences obtained with MSC.Fatigue software. This FEM based package is intended for solution of a wide range of fatigue tasks and is made up of several analysis modules. Two of them will be described in more detail here. Calculations of the safe life of a wing spar using FEFAT module are presented. Comparison with results obtained by means of in-house developed program MINER is also done. The second task deals with the crack propagation analysis using PCRACK module that is an essential part of the damage tolerance evaluation. As a tool for verification of calculated crack propagation curves the widespread fracture mechanics software NASGRO was chosen. Investigated structure is represented by the wing spar specimen previously tested in the laboratory of Institute of Aerospace Engineering. Load history expected in calculations is identical with a load sequence applied during the flight-simulation fatigue test that was done using flight-by-flight methodology with random application of loads.
