Original Title
Combined Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow and Thermodynamic Approach Supporting Integrated Process and Equipment (Furnace) Design

Original Abstract
A complex newly developed procedure of furnaces design and/or retrofit is presented in this paper. This comprehensive approach involves application of heat transfer (radiation and convection) in equipment design, thermodynamic analysis for process design from the point of view of furnace integration, and last but not least the latest approach consisting in involving process fluid flow and hydrodynamic analysis to avoid potential troubles in operation. This new methodology bridges existing gaps between modern targeting methods based on Pinch Analysis (providing us with optimised parameters like temperature of preheated air, stack temperature, excess air etc.) and detailed design of furnaces. It is partly interactive and is based on three stages of design: (i) targeting, (ii) synthesis and (iii) detailed design. It can be applied for both grassroot design and retrofit.
