Original Abstract

Initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks in ultrafine-grained copper prepared by equal channel angular pressing has been studied. Development of surface relief and fracture surfaces were observed by means of scanning electron microscopy. It has been found that the shear bands, developing along the shear planes of the last ECAP process are decisive for fatigue crack initiation and early crack propagation.
