Original Abstract
This study focuses on the development and testing of an electrochemical cell designed for operando analysis in a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The aim is to observe structural changes in active materials in real time during electrochemical cycling. Commercial electrodes based on NMC111, LTO, graphite, and lithium were used, with ionic liquid-based electrolytes containing lithium salts. In-situ SEM observations revealed shrinkage, expansion, and particle cracking during formation cycles. Image analysis software enabled quantification of these effects and correlation with the electrochemical behavior of the cell. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of degradation mechanisms and support the design of more stable lithium-ion batteries
