Original Abstract

The risk of initiation and propagation of micro-fractured zones and macroscopic cracks in quasi-brittle composites, in building structures namely of those with cement-based matrix and metal reinforcement, motivates the proper computational prediction of macroscopic behaviour of such composites under various time-dependent mechanical, thermal, etc. loads, including contacts / impacts of deformable bodies. This short paper presents an useful computational scheme for a relevant benchmark problem, open to numerous generalizations, supplied by references to engineering applications.
