Original Abstract

Durability design, or the assessment of the service life of reinforced concrete structures based on the conservative limiting condition (the depassivation of steel reinforcement due to carbonation) is discussed in this paper. The recommendations of the relevant Eurocodes and a probabilistic approach are debated, focusing on concrete made from cement with supplementary cementing materials. A parametric study of reliability levels is presented.
