Original Abstract

The use of Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) in concrete mixes has become commonplace in modern concrete technology, for reasons including its positive influence on selected parameters of the concrete mix in its fresh and hardened state. However, increasing pressure on the production of blended cements, along with economic difficulties due to grinding or the closure of blast furnaces and the associated longer transport distances, are resulting in lower availability and increased prices for this raw material. It is accordingly necessary to look for other possible solutions or alternatives to optimise the composition of the concrete mix, as this would make it possible to reduce not only the amount of binder but also the proportion of GGBS in the mix while maintaining the technical parameters. One possible solution could be to combine GGBS with an inert admixture in an optimal ratio to ensure maximum compactness of the cementmatrix.
