Original Abstract

It is generally known that optical fibers is difficult to eavesdrop and are therefore considered secure. Macrobending-based eavesdropping methods are relatively easy to implement without link disrupting, and that's why the risk of these attacks is higher. However, it is necessary to use special equipment that will allow the emitted light to be coupled into another fiber. The paper evaluates a simple commercially available taping clip on coupler. The measurement is carried out on standard telecommunication fibers G.652, while not only the power level of emitted light is evaluated, but also the attenuation of the intercepted link. Moreover, we present a modification of the equipment to increase its efficiency.
