Original Abstract

This paper presents extension of the symmetrical components network model to the three-phase in a simulation engine, which is used in the MODES program and in the dispatch training simulator DTS. This extension allows to model network asymmetries in both the fault-free state and faulted operation, even to simulate contemporary multiple asymmetric short-circuit faults. The extended model can be used both for analytical calculations (such as setting protections) and for training dispatchers in solving faults in the distribution. The reliability of the created model is verified using a test system by comparing simulation results with another program that allow three-phase calculation. The test system is topological simple, but it contains several components important for model testing – e.g. arc suppression coil automatic tracking and directional earth fault relay.
