Original Abstract

The paper focuses on traditional structural principles of historical buildings from the 18th to 19th centuries in the Znojmo region, which are also includ-ed in the project “Identification and interpretation of origins, forms and transforma-tions of the Baroque cultural landscape of the South Moravian borderland”. The aim of this paper is to describe the traditional roof frames of selected historical buildings of the area. The goal of the research is to find a suitable construction detail which was applied to the traditional roof frames and could be used for a structure of temporary character. Temporary structures are associated with transient functional use, which can be one of the possible phases in the planned restoration of abandoned sites. The existence of many examples at the international level demonstrates that there have been successful redesigns of dilapidated buildings using a temporary programme. The analysis of the traditional structures indicated a suitable structural joint for a design of a modular element for the construction of temporary architecture. Its char-acteristics are low-cost production and simple structure enabling it to be relocated to other places and adapted for further use. The significance of the research lies in the fact that it suggests a design of structures that are intended to be used as elementary structures in objects of a transitory nature and, at the same time, are based on the traditional building principles of historical monuments and try to preserve the struc-tural uniqueness of the architecture.
