Abstract

Functional sample of the thrust bearing (FV1) allows to reduce friction losses in the turbocharger rotor system with reduced lubricant volume flow. The bearing contains newly developed functional surfaces of defined shape. Based on the results of technical experiments carried out on the turbocharger with this new design of the bearing, the selected representative parameters were improved. The average improvement in measured steady-state operating modes, including low rotor speed, reduced mechanical losses by approximately 15% and oil flow by approximately 20%. The thrust bearing functional sample is integrated into the technical tests that are part of the turbocharger bearing test program and are thus verified by a series of turbocharger measurements.
