Original Abstract

In the paper the benefits and problems of small dams in the Czech Republic are classified and discussed. The results of numerous case studies and remedial works are described. Examples of breached embankment dams are shown, with analyses of the causes of the failures. In the conclusion, lessons learned are summarized and general recommendations are specified.
