Original Abstract

This paper presents a new approach of reduction of energy cost in commercial laundries by applying warm rinsing bath before water extracting (typically, cold water is used). This increases water removal from a linen during a spinning phase which saves energy consumed by a drying process. In contrary, it costs more to warm up the spinning water. The evaluation of financial profitability leads to a simple optimization problem. A relationship between residual moisture content in the linen and the temperature of the rinsing bath, which is needed for the evaluation, has to be obtain by an experiment. The other inputs are either known (e.g. price for energies) or has to be calculated using balance equations or may be obtained by an experiment (e.g. energy consumption for drying). The approach is used in a real data based case study. The results shows it brings savings and it is discussed how to increase them by other improvements of the washing process.
