Original Abstract

Development of buildings with wooden constructions in Central Europe has undergone indisputable evolution during last fifteen years. Fire test and classification methods have recently been harmonized in Europe, but regulatory building requirements remain on national bases. At the moment, there are materials and elements that allow compositions to be designed durable and save in terms of fire protection, but the current national requirements and regulation do not reflect this material and structural development accordingly. This work is aimed at transient numerical simulation of a wooden frame wall in a stick-built home with two-by-four construction during design fire in accordance with European standards - Eurocodes - and the Czech national annexes. The calculation of temperature fields and course of surface temperatures is based on the Fourier law of heat conduction. For most of the family houses in the Czech Republic, the thirty-minute equivalent fire duration resistance is sufficient for external walls in aboveground floors. The results of our calculations show insignificant increase of the temperature in the load-bearing wooden column during this thirty-minute equivalent fire duration with observed surface temperature increase on the load bearing construction lower than 15 K.
