Original Abstract
This paper describes a comparative study on fingerprint recognitionsystems - the project BioFinger. The goal of this study is toinvestigate the capability characteristics of biometric systems in theongoing discussion regarding integration of biometric features inpersonnel documents such as IDcards and Visa application documents. Thus the designed test has the focus on performance testing of selectedalgorithms and systems with dedicated investigations on side effectssuch as independence of matching rates and results from the scanningdevice or dependability of received operator characteristics from agingeffects. The project is carried out in close collaboration betweenFederal Bureau of Criminal Investigation (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA), theFederal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit inder Informationstechnik, BSI) and the Fraunhofer-IGD.
