This work deals with the differences between marketing and market orientation. There are no publications in Czech language, describing the market orientation. Certain ambiguous definitions are indicated in some of the marketing studies, which explain the meaning of this term customer orientation. Most of the business companies do not know, whether the market orientation is only innovative concept of marketing, eventually, whether this is not a synonym to the customer orientation. Resulting from the studies abroad, market orientation is an orientation on all the factors affecting the market. As such, market orientationt represents the core of a high quality marketing and therefore such an attention is fasten upon it nowadays. Utilizing the market orientation, companies can gain a significant competitive advantage to their competitors.
