Original Abstract

Tower cranes are often crucial mechanisms in the construction of buildings. The choice between cranes and manner of their deployment has an important influence on the course and costs of the construction process. Despite this, construction investors and contractors pay little attention to the proposal of cranes for construction work. The currently-used procedures for the proposal of cranes are based on various input indicators which only characterize the requirements for the transport of materials very roughly. The results achieved on the basis of such procedures are of varying quality, but mostly only very approximate. The capacity of the proposed cranes to supply all construction processes in the required time is not being evaluated sufficiently. The following contribution describes new, more precise ways of dealing with this task, i.e. a proposal for an evaluation procedure to determine whether proposed secondary transport using tower cranes corresponds to the transport requirements set out in the schedule for continuous construction sub-processes.
