Original Abstract

This contribution presents an overall summary of several years of research. The focus was placed on an experimental testing of solid wood and wood-based composite materials used as a sheathing of vented façade systems with bonded joints. The potential of this arrangement was verified through experimental easurements. Two different test methods, defined by relevant European and Czech standards, were adopted and modified. Moreover, the frost resistance of some test specimens was determined by subjecting them to a cyclic action of freezing and thawing. Another group of specimens was subjected to conditioning with sudden temperature changes and finally, the substructure bonding retention to the cladding and strength in shear in tension stress were tested, analyzed and discussed. The obtained data revealed that the crucial factor for the bonded joint is not its strength but the quality and stiffness of the cladding material or of the substructure. Additionally, it was verified that any violation against technological discipline may weaken the functionality of the entire façade system.
