Original Abstract

This paper deals with an engineering design of a fire-ring originated in a two-stroke compression-ignition engine with opposed pistons and uniflow scavenging. Determination of ring profile design, material, and ring thermal expansion are described. Main attention is paid to the design algorithm of a piston ring free shape to assure static pressure distribution of the ring mounted to the cylinder liner and simultaneously avoid plastic deformations during correct ring installation to the piston. A strain-stress analysis is performed by using the finite elements method. The developed methodology is generally utilizable for design of top and second compression rings for two- and also four-stroke engines.
