Original Abstract

Fives Stein uses a cooling technology based on both side water spray for continuous annealing or galvanizing line. The aim of this project was to standardize or improve this cooling technology. Spray cooling visualizations were done first. Second, several spraying configuration were tested in order to study the influence of these parameters on the heat transfer coefficient. They were: spray distance, nozzle span, nozzle inclination angle, cooling header span, water pressure and nozzle type. Vertically moving testing bench was used for these tests. Results showed significant influence of some tested parameters on heat transfer coefficient. These results were sent to Fives Stein company and they will decided about cooling system improvements with respect to the costs.
