Cementové kompozity (beton, malta, stěrky apod.) jsou často vyztužovány tzv. rozptýlenou výztuží, která má zvýšit pevnost v tahu v ohybu či snížit smršťování materiálu. Takováto rozptýlená výztuž může být tvořena z kovu, plastu, skla či celulózy. Při aplikaci výztuže ve formě vláken je důležitým parametrem rovnoměrné rozptýlení vláken v celém objemu směsi. Technickou výzvou je posouzení míry výskytu shluků a tím i stanovení kvality rozmísení vláken. Zpětného zjištění distribuce vláken v cementovém kompozitu je založen na stanovení snadno identifikovatelných shluků vláken na lomu tenkých vrstev posuzovaného materiálu jejich přítomnosti vláken jako takové a posouzení distribuce v rámci zkoumaného vzorku – homogenity rozmísení. Pro získání reprezentativního soboru je navržen postup, kdy je vzorek rozřezán na tenké desky a rozlámaný definovaným způsobem na zlomky ekvivalentní velikosti.
