This article is focused on numerical elasto-plastic analysis of the stress-strain field at the crack tip in these special specimens made of a pure polycrystalline iron in order to check a validity of the \DeltaK-based description of fatigue crack growth characteristics. Results reveal that, near the threshold, the small scale yielding conditions can be considered to be fulfilled. For approximately two times higher \DeltaK values, the \DeltaJ approach should already be more convenient for a characterisation of the crack tip stress-strain field.
