Original Abstract

Aspects of brittleness of concrete for railway sleepers: Fracture characteristics of concrete for prestressed railway sleepers are presented in this paper. These characteristics were obtained from six three-point bend tests of beam specimens with central edge notch. Mean value and coefficient of variation are calculated for effective crack length, effective fracture toughness, critical energy rate, fracture energy etc. Large range of variability of these characteristics was find -- from about 4% for modulus of elasticity to almost 30% for characteristic length of tested concrete.
