Abstract

As part of a research project involving Pseudo Random Bit Sequences (PRBS) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based Radar Signal processing, a highly flexible generator for PRBS capable of operating in the 5 Gbit Range was developped. The core component of the System is special Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA Board that has SMA Connectors for the RocketIO serial transceivers. The logic on the FPGA was designed such that it contains 4 independent PRBS generators that can be loaded with arbitrary seed patterns and feedback tap settings. The prototype further incorporates a Linux Embedded System for the user interface, which is written in Qt and makes use of the touchscreen monitor for convenient operation of the instrument.
