On the project

This proposal aims to uncover the physical foundations of the plasmonic lightning-rod effect (PLRE), which produces extreme and highly localized electric fields at sharp plasmonic features. Moving beyond intuitive design, the project will establish predictive links between antenna geometry, local curvature, and near-field enhancement. Conventional and emerging plasmonic materials will be explored, and key figures of merit will be evaluated to enable optimized antenna design and future sensing and spectroscopy applications.
