Janus Magnetic-Living Hydrogel Biobots Enable Active Penetration and Eradication of Biofilms

On the project

Antibiotic-resistant biofilms pose major challenges. We will develop a non-antibiotic strategy using Janus magnetic-living hydrogel biobots integrating probiotic Bacillus subtilis and Fe3O4 nanoparticles via droplet microfluidics. Under rotating magnetic fields, the magnetic hemisphere will generate strong shear to disrupt biofilm matrix, whereas such actuation will not be achievable in homogeneously loaded structures, while the probiotic side will secrete antibacterial compounds for synergistic eradication.
