On the project

The project aims to explore the solid-solid phase transition in tin and its effect on morphology and plasmonic properties of tin nanostructures. The phase transition from metallic β-Sn to non-conductive α-Sn, notoriously known as tin pest, has so far been considered undesirable, especially in electrical and semiconductor devices. However, the phase change could be employed on the nanoparticle level for temperature-driven plasmonic switching and, as a result, in phase-changing plasmonic devices.
