On the project

Welded joints are fatigue-critical regions of HSS structures due to stress concentrations, residual stresses, and microstructural changes in the HAZ. Exposure to aggressive environments further reduces fatigue resistance through corrosion-induced pits whre strat crack initiation. While corrosion and welding have been studied separately, their combined effect on crack initiation and early propagation remains insufficiently understood. This project aims to fulfill the gap using experimental testing, defect characterization and numerical modeling.
