Are you looking for tools that will make your life at Brno University of Technology easier? Start using university apps! BUT has long been investing in modern technologies that make everyday life at the university more pleasant for students and staff. And that’s exactly the goal of the My BUT and BUT Slides applications. VUT digital services are tailored to students and employees. | Author: CIS Studying and working at a university is no longer just about textbooks and lectures – a high-quality digital environment also plays an important role. My BUT and BUT Slides are applications developed by the BUT Information Services Center, designed specifically for students and staff of the Brno University of Technology. “Our vision is to provide high-quality digital services that make life easier for students and employees and allow them to focus on what really matters – studying and teaching. That’s why we continuously develop My BUT and BUT Slides and add new features as resources allow,” said Jaroslav List, head of development for both projects.
The mobile app My BUT unifies the main study agenda and all important information in one place. Users can find their class schedule, easily connect to online lectures, and view grades and assessments for individual subjects. “There’s also a direct link to the study system with automatic login, so users can register for exam dates via Studis or use other functions of the information system without logging in again,” explained List. There are also handy tools for navigating the campus. The app includes an integrated map of the entire university, including sports facilities, dormitories, and canteens. It also shows current opening hours of canteens, daily menus, and offers the option to top up your meal account. Newly enrolled students will also appreciate the link to the Freshman Guide, which they can easily access through the app to help them start their life at BUT. All important messages are delivered via app notifications. These include various university announcements, BUT news, invitations to competitions, and calls to participate in interesting events. “The app simplifies internal communication with students and staff. Notifications automatically include BUT news as well as manually sent bulk messages from various university departments. A major benefit for users is that they can choose which channels they want to subscribe to,” added the developer. The My BUT app is available for free on Google Play for Android and on the App Store for iOS. More details can be found at mojevut.vut.cz. Both applications are freely available. | Author: CIS
While My BUT mainly benefits students, the BUT Slides application makes work easier primarily for staff. It is used for presenting and sharing teaching materials during lectures and seminars while allowing interactive audience engagement. Among the main features are the ability to respond to the presenter’s questions (providing instant feedback), ask your own questions, complete polls, or create mind maps in the form of a so-called word cloud. “BUT Slides brings interactivity to presentations and improves communication with the audience. Students can easily participate via their mobile devices, which allows the presenter to receive feedback and questions that might not otherwise be raised. This interactive form also gives the presenter an overview of what students have understood and where they have gaps – in a fun and engaging way,” said List, adding that the app was officially launched this semester and has already been tried by many lecturers. The application is available free of charge to all students, teachers, and employees of BUT without restrictions and supports both Czech and English languages. It can be used not only in teaching but also at conferences or work meetings. Login details and more information can be found at slides.vut.cz.
