The goal is not to replace the existing field-specific education but to offer a complementary platform for interdisciplinary connections, sharing experiences, and strengthening competencies in areas such as publishing, project activities, data management, and personal development," explains Vice-Rector for Continuing Education and Quality Vítězslav Máša.What the school offersThe University-wide Doctoral School will function in the form of thematic educational blocks (18 hours of in-person instruction), focusing on:
The school will also include an initial one-day adaptation course to support interdisciplinary collaboration and informal meetings among doctoral students across BUT.
The pilot year of the University-wide Doctoral School will run from September 19 to December 12, 2025 (every Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication). The program is primarily intended for 1st and 2nd-year doctoral students from all faculties, and participation is completely voluntary.
The introductory lecture on September 26, 2025 (starting at 9:00 AM in Prof. Brauner's auditorium at FEKT) is open to all doctoral students, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the university-wide school. Together, we will address topics such as the position of a doctoral student at BUT, doctoral income, the rights and obligations of a doctoral student, the role of the supervisor, mobility opportunities, and other questions related to doctoral studies.
"We believe that this initiative will contribute to a higher quality of doctoral studies and greater interconnectedness of the academic community," adds Martina Repková, the course coordinator and a member of the Vice-Rector Vítězslav Máša working group.
