Students of Brno University of Technology (BUT) don't slow down even during the summer holidays and balance their rest with participation in major sports events. In July, they represented both the Czech Republic and BUT at the FISU World University Games in Germany and the European Universities Orienteering Championship in Poland.Czech athletes competed in 14 out of the 18 sports featured at the Games. Seven students from BUT were nominated to the Czech national team for the Games. The Czech delegation included a total of 131 athletes and brought home 11 medals (3 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze), securing a great 18th place in the country rankings. Altogether, 9,047 participants from 102 countries competed in the event.
The most notable success for BUT came from rowing, where Kryštof Blaha (FEEC) and Jan Lasota (FME) were part of the bronze-winning coxless four.
Tereza Hrbáčková (FA) reached the final in the women’s double sculls and finished in 6th place. The same result was achieved by Jakub Sprinzl (FA) in the men's coxless pair.
Kateřina Galíčková (FBM) was a member of the 3x3 basketball team. The girls made it to the medal matches but narrowly missed the podium, finishing in an excellent 4th place.
Radim Švarc (FBM), after successfully representing at the Czech Academic Games in Ostrava earlier this year, also competed in swimming at the WUG.

European Universities Orienteering Championship, Poland, 23–27 July 2025
The same number of BUT athletes as at the WUG headed to Poland at the end of July to join the Czech team for the European Universities Orienteering Championship.
In two orienteering disciplines (sprint and middle), BUT was represented by Klára Nechanická (FA), Markéta Bídová (FA), Michaela Dittrichová (FA), Markéta Rotková (FME), Alžběta Nešporová (FA), Adam Jonáš (FEEC), and Tomáš Doušek (FIT).
Markéta Rotková and Michaela Dittrichová both placed in the top ten in the middle distance. The best result was a 4th place by Adam Jonáš, also in the middle distance.The orienteering team from BUT joined the Czech national squad at the European Universities Orienteering Championship. | Author: K. The participation and performances of BUT students at international competitions prove that the university is home not only to top professionals, but also to outstanding athletes.
