Students from Israel will design a temporary use for the site where the Moravian Jewish Museum in Brno will be built.
Students from Israel will design a temporary use for the site where the Moravian Jewish Museum in Brno will be built.
As part of a week-long summer school at the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, students from an Israeli university will be looking for
temporary uses for a site near the bus station in the center of Brno, where the Moravian Jewish Museum in Brno should be built in a few years
. Through a tour of Brno and several days of work in studios, ideas will be created on how to temporarily use the space while considering the memory of Jews in the Czech Republic.
The summer school was created thanks to the cooperation between the Faculty of Architecture at BUT and the School of Architecture at Ariel University. From August 25 to 31, 2022,
Israeli and Brno students will be looking for uses for the parking lot on Benešova třída in the center of Brno using so-called temporary architecture
. They will create ideas for a short-term architectural intervention that will reflect the urban, cultural, and historical aspects of the place,” explained Lucie Zádrapová, the main organizer of the summer school.
The Moravian Jewish Museum is set to be built on the plot in the coming years. It will commemorate the history of Jews in Moravia and the impacts of the Holocaust not only in the Moravian metropolis. Several foreign studios have applied to the architectural competition for the museum’s design, and a winner is expected to be decided in September. The museum's creators have high ambitions—the museum building should become as iconic for Brno as the Tugendhat Villa, for example.
