A delegation of rectors and other university representatives, led by the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research, will present the best of the Czech education system and support the establishment of new international partnerships. “BUT’s involvement in EXPO 2025 reflects our ambition to actively shape international cooperation in key areas of education, research and innovation. It is not just about representing the university, but about strategically strengthening its prestige and developing partnerships that can bring concrete benefits to the academic community and industry. The presentation of the spin-off project CaviPlasma during EDU Day is a convincing example of BUT’s ability to transform cutting-edge research into practical solutions that address global sustainability challenges. This participation marks an important step in fulfilling our strategy for internationalization, technology transfer and sustainable development,” added Iveta Šimberová, BUT Vice-Rector for International and Public Relations.
EXPO 2025 is held under the theme Designing Future Society for Our Lives. It opened on April 13 and will run until October 13, 2025. The Czech Republic is presenting itself under the theme “Talent and Creativity for Life” as a confident and inspiring country contributing to a better future through both tradition and innovation. The Czech Pavilion, designed by Apropos Architects, is a technically impressive spiraling structure made of wood and Czech glass. The pavilion features a permanent exhibition, the multifunctional Daisue Hall auditorium, facilities for business meetings, a restaurant, a CTP lounge, and in front of the pavilion, a relaxation zone with a sea view is available for visitors. | Author: Office of the General Commissioner, EXPO 2025, Marek MusilThe Czech university mission will take place during the thematic days “21st Century Education: Artificial Intelligence, Technology and Innovation in Education” (July 24–25) and the National Day of the Czech Pavilion on July 24. The program includes meetings with representatives of universities and research institutions in Japan and Taiwan, expert seminars, networking receptions and talks with Czech embassies, Czech Centres and expatriates – including alumni of Czech universities. “Participation of BUT in the mission to Taiwan and later at EXPO in Osaka represents a significant opportunity to establish international cooperation in these strategic territories, strengthen research excellence and increase the university’s global visibility. We expect to establish new partnerships, gain inspiration for innovation and enhance the reputation of BUT in key areas of research, education and innovation,” said Mariana Tesařová, Head of Internationalization at BUT.
The delegation also includes eight selected spin-off companies that will be presented during EDU Day on July 25. This event will showcase the most interesting discoveries and products from the Czech Republic, including the award-winning technology CaviPlasma from BUT. Representing the university at this event will be Pavel Rudolf from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, who has been researching water treatment using hydrodynamic cavitation for over 20 years. This physical phenomenon creates vapor bubbles in water by reducing pressure, similar to boiling. The award-winning CaviPlasma technology will also be showcased at the Czech Pavilion during EXPO 2025. | Author: Jan ProkopiusThe university spin-off CaviPlasma is a collaboration between Brno University of Technology, Masaryk University and the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It brings an important innovation in water purification. It can remove chemical pollutants such as pharmaceutical residues, pesticides and hormones, as well as biological contaminants including bacteria and cyanobacteria from large volumes of water. At EXPO 2025, the project will be presented in an updated design in the form of an engaging TED-style talk. It will be part of a week-long educational program in the Czech Pavilion.Cooperation with Taiwanese institutions is of particular importance for BUT, especially in the field of semiconductor technologies, which the university considers a strategic priority. | Author: Václav Koníček Brno University of Technology is an international university focused on research, sustainability and digitalization, building strong relationships and partnerships with universities around the world. It actively develops partnerships with Taiwanese universities as well. “Cooperation with Taiwanese institutions is especially important for BUT, particularly in the field of semiconductor technologies, which the university sees as a strategic priority. In recent years, key agreements have been signed, a joint research center for advanced chip design has been established, and BUT is actively involved in the work of the Czech Semiconductor Centre. This cooperation enables not only the exchange of students and academics, but more importantly, the transfer of know-how, sharing of research capacities and development of human resources in an area that is crucial for the future of the European technology sector,” added Vice-Rector Iveta Šimberová.
The aim of the upcoming mission is to support international cooperation across education, research, innovation and technology transfer – both by establishing new partnerships and by developing existing ones. The mission also includes promoting study opportunities at BUT to a broad international audience.
