Majáles 2025: It brought me experience and friendship, says the queen from BUT

Social, determined, and above all, competitive. Karolína Cíchová, candidate for the Queen of Brno Majáles, is studying a Bachelor's program in Business Economics at the Faculty of Business and Management at Brno University of Technology. In addition to her role as queen, she also tried out the position of coordinator at Majáles – and regardless of her role, for her, Majáles means above all fun and friendship.

Karolína comes from Moravia, graduated from the Business Academy in Uherské Hradiště, and when choosing a university, she knew she wanted to continue down the business path. She was considering several business faculties, but the one at BUT felt the most appealing. She also saw the advantage of the university being located in Brno – a student city full of opportunities for future development and career growth.

Starting university was quite challenging for Karolína, but once she got used to the different teaching style, she began to engage in various extracurricular activities, including Majáles. The role of queen is not her first experience with the festival – last year she helped organize it and, as one of the coordinators for BUT, was responsible for communication between the royal couple, Majáles, and the university. “I got involved completely by accident because I was the only one who applied,” she laughs, adding that at first, she had no idea what she was getting into.

But Majáles grew close to her heart, and she wanted to be part of it again this year in some form. She decided to run for queen at the encouragement of last year’s king and his royal team. “They kept telling me I had to apply, and I was tempted to try it from the other side – so I went for it,” Kája says with a smile. She wants to bring a part of herself into the queen’s role, which is why she wore her traditional costume for both the coronation and the maypole raising. “It represents me. I organized traditional festivities for four years and even served as a '
'stárka', which is kind of like a queen,” she explains.

Technology – the ace up the sleeve

Karolína believes that thanks to her energy and determination, this year’s Majáles will be an unforgettable experience. “I want to keep the crown at BUT, so I’m giving it my all,” she says enthusiastically. She was especially looking forward to events where students from all Brno universities gather – like the band contest, maypole raising, or the festival parade. “We’re a great team and we all agree that we mostly want to enjoy it,” comments the BUT queen candidate.

The royal couple wants to support their university not only with a strong presence during the Majáles celebrations but also by promoting this year’s chosen theme. “We picked the theme Technology – the ace up the sleeve because we study at a great university and we want to show it to everyone,” Kája says with a smile.

And what does she like most about BUT? She especially appreciates the approachability of the teachers, their willingness to help students, and the creativity some of them bring to their teaching. The Business Economics program will also be useful for the Majáles queen candidate beyond school and work – her family owns a winery, so she will certainly use the knowledge she gains. In the future, however, she would prefer to focus on online marketing and content creation for social media.
