Jaroslav Koton has been elected as the candidate for appointment as dean of the FEEC at BUT

The term of office of the current FEEC BUT leadership will conclude in January 2026. With this date in mind, the Academic Senate announced during the autumn the election of a candidate for appointment as Dean for the upcoming term February 2026 – January 2030. Two candidates ran for this position: Jaroslav Koton and Tomáš Kratochvíl. At its meeting on 9 December, the senators decided in a secret ballot and elected Jaroslav Koton. He received 11 votes from the nineteen senators present. The elected candidate must still be appointed to the position by the Rector of BUT.

Prof. Ing. Jaroslav Koton, Ph.D. has been working at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies of BUT for more than twenty years. He currently serves as Vice-Dean for Creative Activities and is the statutory representative of the Dean. As a professor at the Department of Telecommunications, he has long been active in the academic environment. An interesting detail of his profile is that, in addition to his technical education, he also studied Viticulture and Winemaking at Mendel University in Brno.

In the field of science and education, he has participated in a number of basic and applied research projects and has supervised dozens of students in their professional development. He is the author of more than 140 publications (over 60 of them in impact journals), which have received more than 1,500 citations. In teaching, he focuses mainly on modern network technologies and information security.

As the elected Dean, he aims to make FEEC the first choice for applicants and partners. His goal is to ensure a strong position for the faculty and a pleasant environment for both work and study. He emphasises closer links with industry so that students gain real-world experience, stronger international cooperation with concrete benefits for the faculty, and the use of the reaccreditation process to modernise and streamline teaching.

Planned team of Vice-Deans:

  • Candidate for Vice-Dean for Bachelor Studies and Human Resources Management – Assoc. Prof. Ing. Vlasta Sedláková, Ph.D.
  • Candidate for Vice-Dean for Master’s and Doctoral Studies – Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jana Kolářová, Ph.D.
  • Candidate for Vice-Dean for Creative Activities and Knowledge Transfer – Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jan Bárta, Ph.D.
  • Candidate for Vice-Dean for Internationalisation – Ing. Stanislav Klusáček, Ph.D.
  • Candidate for Vice-Dean for External and Internal Relations – Ing. Michal Kubíček, Ph.D.

More about the plans of Dean Jaroslav Koton can be found in his programme statement.
More about the dean election can be found on the Academic Senate website.
