Two students from Brno University of Technology have advanced to the final rounds of two talent competitions. Daniela Ponomarevová, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Fine Arts, is one of the three female and two male finalists for the 2025 Critics’ Award for Young Painting. The renowned Czech-Slovak IT SPY competition has five male and three female finalists. One of them is David Mihola, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Information Technology, who succeeded with his master’s thesis “Low-Power Embedded AI Camera System”

Her inspiration comes from popular culture, advertising strategies, and the aesthetics of the entertainment industry, primarily drawing from the world of amusement parks.
The Critics’ Award for Young Painting focuses on supporting and promoting talented young artists under 35. Established in 2008, its goal is to help emerging personalities establish themselves on the art scene. The award ceremony and exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Czech National Library of Technology in Prague.

This opens the way not only for standalone smart sensors but also for integrating such devices into larger systems, for example, smart city infrastructure,” summarized David Mihola, who works at the Department of Computer Graphics and Multimedia at FIT BUT.Poster for David Mihola's project.The IT SPY competition annually selects the best master’s theses in computer science and information technology from leading Czech and Slovak universities. In the last academic year alone, around 1,400 such theses were defended in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The final projects are evaluated by a professional jury composed of representatives from both academia and the IT industry, including Radek Kočí, head of the Department of Intelligent Systems at FIT BUT. The title of the Best IT Master’s Thesis of 2025 and other awards will be announced at the gala evening on November 19 in Prague.
The overall winner of IT SPY will receive a €2,000 prize from Profinit company, which can be used, for instance, to further develop their master’s project.
