This thesis deals with the technical and economic efficiency of district heating systems in the Czech Republic. After defining the concepts related to the heating sector, technological and legislative requirements are presented that contribute to the modernisation and decarbonisation of the heating sector and thus increase the efficiency of production and distribution through the transition to natural gas, renewable energy sources or the use of small modular reactors. The conclusion of the thesis is devoted to the simulation of a district heating system in Python, in which different scenarios of operation of such system and the calculation of the temperature drop in the pipeline are shown. The simulation also calculates the magnitude of losses in the system over a one-year period.
