German II

The course German language II (3N2) is a follow-up to German language I (2N1).
It deals with the general and technical language. The terminology in
mechanical engineering and some basic features of German for specific pourposes are further developed. Beside the classical classroom education, the students attend computer aided lab classes.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course 3N2 is intended to deepen the student’s language skills necessary for more difficult and independent everyday communication.
Concerning technical German, the course extends the knowledge of technical terminology in the foreign language. The student will be able to understand more difficult text with the help of a dictionary and to use professional literature written in German.

The course 3N2 is based on knowledge from the course 2N1.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit requirements: Participation and work in the exercises are systematically controlled, 60% points at the credit test as minimum. The students are required to write the credit test in the last week in the semester, only once without possible possibility of repeating. In well-founded cases the teacher can set further conditions as a compensation for non-fulfilment of the given conditions.

Aims

The aim of the course 3N2 is to develop knowledge of basic language skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing) on the basis of more difficult general as well as technical texts (instructions for use, specifications, forms, and the like).
Students will be able to communicate in more difficult situations using relevant language means, and master the language for specific purposes.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in the exercises and satisfying conditions are systematically controlled (testing of grammar, vocabulary etc.). Absences can be compensated in well-founded cases in a form of individual homework.

The CALL-courses (computer assisted language learning) include either technical German with trainings of professional terminology (the courses of Mgr. Macek) or they develop the communication skills (the courses of Mgr. Návratová).

Using the programs developed by the British software company Vektor Multimedia, the CALL-courses of Mgr. Návratová develop the communication skills. The courses include themes of common life (travelling, social contacts).
