Aims

  • Listening
    Students should:
    • understand simple questions about personal information;
    • understand short messages related to situations at the university, in the dormitory, at the store, at the doctor's, at the restaurant, etc.; and
    • understand the main information contained in a listening speech;
    • understand words learned during the course;
    • be able to apply basic strategies leading to text comprehension.
  • Reading
    Students should:
    • understand short messages and information from the lexical fields learned during the course
    • Understand the general content of simple dialogues in the communication situations learned during the course
    • Understand the content of a presentation/autopresentation
    • be able to search for specific information in simple applied texts (bulletin boards, timetables, class schedules, menu cards, etc.)
  • Speaking
    The student should:
    • be able to initiate and conclude a simple conversation;
    • be able to briefly introduce him/herself;
    • use the official and unofficial variety of Polish according to the situation;
    • be able to ask simple questions;
    • be able to answer simple questions from the subject areas learned in the language course;
    • be able to use simple strategies leading to sustaining a conversation (e.g., excuse me, I don't understand, please repeat, I already understand).
  • Writing
    Students should:
    • be able to write simple single sentences and phrases;
    • fill out a form with personal information (UrbanCard application, Internet in the dormitory);
    • be able to write a simple text about themselves (self-presentation).
  • Lexicon
    The student should:
    • have the vocabulary included in the curriculum
    • use appropriate vocabulary to convey relevant information
  • Grammatical correctness
    Students should:
    • know and use grammatically correct language forms, including the conjugation of verbs: to be, to live, to study, and the recursion of verbs: to study, to ask;
    • be able to construct simple affirmative, negative and question sentences.
  • Phonological correctness
    Studens should:
    • know and apply the rules of pronunciation, accentuation and intonation to the extent that the content of speech can be understood;
    • be able to read a short, simple text correctly.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

  • Individual test (75%, at the end of the course)
  • Class participation (25%, at the end of the course)
