Interior 2

The course Interior 2 builds on the courses Interior 1 and Crafts Techniques where students learnt the basics of interior design and the basics of craft techniques, knowledge of structural connections and materials. Interior 2 expands the knowledge of interior design and presents types of interior furniture elements in detail. The knowledge is applied in a concrete design and realisation of individual furniture element. The furniture design and learning of basic crafts techniques lead to production of a functional furniture product of selected type which is intended to be used in a particular architectural space.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
- submit a design of assigned furniture element (dining chair, working chair, relax armchair, conference chair etc.); and design book, and physical model 1:1 as assigned.
- active participation in all practicals in workshops and completion of further assignments.
Students must participate in the practicals in the workshops, with a possibility to compensate during the exam period. During the practicals, students are instructed in occupational safety and health protection, and work safety with technical equipment. Students are required to participate in at least two lectures/seminars on designing furniture elements (compensation is not possible).
Aims
- Students will expand their knowledge about hand and machine processing of joinery timber.
- Students will expand their knowledge about production and use of basic joinery connections.
- Student will learn the basic characteristics of materials used in interior and for producing furniture.
- Students will acquire the ability to develop a design of sitting furniture.
- Students will know the basic ergonomic requirements for the design of furniture elements.
- Students will acquire the knowledge related to the design and realisation of a furniture element.
- Students will be able to choose an adequate structure and materials for a furniture element.
- Students will be able to select adequate furniture element for a specific interior and purpose of use.
