Electronic Systems and Measurement
FEKT-BPC-PBTAcad. year: 2024/2025
The subject is focused to operation of some medical devices. In practical exercises the students will deal with problems encountered in operation of medical devices.
Language of instruction
Czech
Number of ECTS credits
4
Mode of study
Not applicable.
Guarantor
Entry knowledge
Diagnostic medical technology. Therapeutic and protetic technology.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
Extent and forms of monitored teaching is specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.
Aims
The knowledge of students will be extendt to general instruments technique. The next profit will be theoretical and practical dexterity from electrical measurement of electrical and nonelectrical quantity. The part of education is practical experience with measuring instruments and methods for DC and Ac measurement.
The student obtain practical experience with operating of basic instruments in clinical practice, application these instruments to patients and with procedure for evaluation of measured values.

Syllabus
1. Electrocardiograph – scanning of EKG signal, the basis of evaluation
2. Electromyograph – scanning of signals from groups of muscles ( using surface electrodes) for different isometric load of muscles
3. For the whole group of above devices – effect of transmission characteristics of the device on the resulting shape of signal (the source will be a simulator). Diagnostic significance of the changes. Simulated defects in devices influence the resulting transmission characteristics.
4. Scanning of the electric activity of brain – impact on the behaviour of the patient and on the nature of the signal, evaluation of the shape of the signal
5. The parameters of scanning electrodes.
6. Blood pressure measurement – use of Korotkov sounds and the oscillometric method and their comparison.
7. Pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry
8. Impact of the discrimination factor of the device on the magnitude of interference with the scanned signal by network frequency of 50 Hz. Impact of the transition resistivity of electrodes on the resulting discrimination factor (difference between the theoretical and practical value).
9. Impedance measurement of blood flow
10. Measurement of blood saturation with oxygen. Possible ways of influencing the final result.
