Automation of the Design of Metal and Timber Structures

Summary of computing systems for static and dynamic analysis, design and verification of whole structure and its components, including connections and joints.
Basic methods of computing models of real structures.
Computing systems for structural analysis (particularly Dlubal RFEM and SCIA Engineer): Input data, parameters of analysis, calculation, result interpretation, dimensioning.
Global analysis of structures.
Structural stability of frames.
Individual tasks solving.

Entry knowledge

Static action of load-bearing systems, principles of reliability and rules for design of steel and timber structures, loads acting on engineering structures, limit state method, design of elements and connections of steel and timber structures.

The objective of the subject is to introduce students to the problems of this course and to practise acquires knowledge and skills.
Students have to manage the aim of the subject, make the acquaintance with course problematic and practice their knowledge and acquirements.

Structure geometry – planar and spatial models. 4. Model – type of the supports, members, nodes. Loading actions and their combinations. 5. Non-linearities. 6. Stability analysis. 7.–8. Global analysis of structures. 9.–10. Computation. Evaluation of results. Dimensioning of members.
